Food Issues

I have one normal weight son and one underweight daughter. My son is pickier than my daughter. Does this make sense to anyone else?

Have any of you ever dealt with having an underweight child? I know nowadays it seems that people and doctors are more concerned about kids being overweight, but being underweight isn't great either. I'm not even sure how to go about helping her gain weight without damaging her relationship with food! (Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated).

I always knew that Peyton was destined to be tall and thin. (Her dad is 6'4'' and only 145 pounds so she totally inherited his body type). But is there something I can do about it? My main concern is getting her to gain some weight without giving her any kind of body or food issues. Just like if I was dealing with an overweight child. I wouldn't tell them they needed to be on a diet or tell them they couldn't eat certain things because they were too fat.

My husband gets a lot of people who tell him he is "so skinny." Now while most people might take that as a compliment, the way people go about it is just as rude as if they were to say to an overweight person that he/she is "so fat." Let's not forget that it goes both ways people!!

Anyway, I am just rambling on, but if anyone has any suggestions, I will take them. I have already gone back to whole milk with her (even though she'll be 4 soon). And I am also not really concerned about it, but it couldn't hurt for her to have a couple extra pounds on her either. After all, it's getting to be wintertime and those skinny people sure get cold easy :)

Friday Faves

5 of my favorite things this week:

1. A good workout

Because a good workout can make you feel so good, especially when you have had a little hiatus for a couple weeks. So glad I got a good workout in today!

2. Diet Caffeine Free Pepsi

Because it gives me a break from all the water I drink...without the calories or caffeine.

3. Damon

Because he is so dang cute and today whenever I would sit down on the floor, he would maneuver his way over to me and sit in my lap and I just love it.

4. Peyton
Because I got to spend some much needed time with her and because she is the best little girl a mom could have asked for.

5. A good steak
Because hopefully my hubby and I can go on a hot date here tonight. Yum!

Venting

Today was one of THOSE days. You know the ones. It seems like everyone you run into has shut off the functionality in their brain that makes them unable to say/do anything that is NOT stupid. (Now I am all for giving people the benefit of the doubt, but let me just tell you what happened and you can decide if I am a pregnant hormonal lunatic or not).

First, I had an appointment to get some paperwork taken care of. I was talking to the 60-year old lady helping me who meant very well, but didn't use her brain before speaking. We were talking about kids and I told her I was pregnant with my 3rd. First, she asked me if it was planned (rude comment #1). Then she told me that she would have recommended me waiting at least another 6 months to get pregnant with #3. Umm, thanks? What exactly are you supposed to say to that? Oops, my bad! Or ok, let me get rid of this one, wait a little longer and try again? I mean, really?? Tell me if I am crazy people!

Then at Costco, while in line, there was a grandma with her grandson in the line next to us. He was shrieking at the top of his lungs and throwing a fit so she gives him a quarter. No biggie. Then this little boy (I swear he wasn't even 2 yet) "shows" my 15-month old his quarter (it really looked like he was trying to hand it to him) so of course, Damon does what any NORMAL kid would do and takes it. You should have seen this grandma's reaction. Her eyes got huge and she said, "Ay, no!" and literally snatched that quarter right away from my son. She then proceeded to tell her grandson to put his quarter in his pocket and quickly. Really? Because my 15-month old thief might come back for it, right? Ugh.

Then of course to top it all off, as I was leaving Costco, some special guy had to pull out right in front of me so I had to slam on my brakes even though he was at a stop sign and I wasn't so I had the right of way.

Just one of THOSE days. Please tell me I'm not crazy... or tell me if I am. I really need to know.

Pumpkin Patch

Today I got to take a little trip with my almost 4-year old to the pumpkin patch! It was a tiny tots trip and such a beautiful day! (Almost a bit too hot).

I have to admit, it was so much fun and so nice to just spend that time with just Peyton! It used to only be us two for a long time, but it has pretty much been since Damon has been born that we haven't gotten too much of that one on one time.

Let me just say, I love this little girl! The white pumpkins were her favorite and she was always pointing them out.

Collecting leaves kept her busy for awhile, while we waited for everyone else to get there.
Her preschool class!

Good ol' Grandpa, driving the tractor for the hay ride! (He isn't Peyton's grandpa, but that is what the lady called him).
Peyton at the end with the pumpkin she got to take home!
I took her out to lunch afterwards simply because I just wanted to make this time with her last a little bit longer. The waitress was so nice and said she though Peyton was in Kindergarten with how tall she was and how mature she acted. :) That's my girl!

Damon is 14 months

Ummm...where has the time gone? Can't believe my baby boy is getting so big so fast. Here are a few things he is doing:

-Not walking on his own yet, but getting close. He loves pushing around anything with wheels and will pretend he can walk like a pro.
-He only has 6 teeth, 4 top and 2 bottom.
-He loves bananas, peanut butter and jelly, grapes, cereal and ANYTHING bread-related. He is definitely my child.
-He has started using sign language quite frequently and can say: please, thank you, drink, eat, more and can shake his head yes (although it's more like his whole upper body). He can do the motions to several songs such as open/shut them, 5 little chickadees, book of mormon stories, itsy bitsy spider and patty cake.
-He can say mom, dad, please, shoes, kitty and cheese (although except for mom and dad, the others are not very clear except to his mom of course).
-He loves to climb on the couch and crawl all over it. He will find different objects to help him by standing on them so he can get up there.
-He loves to push buttons, especially on any kind of phone or electronic device. I would almost call this an obsession.
-He holds a toy phone up to his ear and tries to talk. He also starts crawling toward the phone whenever it rings, as if he is going to answer it.
-He is an excellent sleeper and always sleeps through the night, around 12 hours and takes at least one nap (sometimes 2).
-He is such a cute, happy guy and he makes anyone around him love him to pieces.

We love our little Damon!

Real Mommas, Real.....Style?

Real 80's style that is!! I have a group of wonderful ladies from church who all get together to workout 3 times a week. I love it! It is my favorite way to exercise. So sometimes we have an 80's day (yes, SOMETIMES. We do not dress like this every time we work out) where we dress up, workout, take pictures and EAT! Hey, at least we don't have to feel guilty since we just sweated our booties off!

Speaking of which, we took these AFTER exercising so we might look a tad on the shiny side.

That would be me in the pink... hey at least I have a feather in my hair. That's TOTALLY in right now... right?

Definitely a boy!

My little Damon is definitely a BOY! He would rather play than eat and always gets into everything he isn't supposed to! He is so busy that I am definitely not looking forward to the walking stage (which is not too far in the future).

Today, while trying to keep him contained so my dear husband could do some caulking of the crown molding, Damon tried to outsmart me. He got his little push toy, put it up to the chair and climbed up onto the chair!
He is so darn proud of himself too! Just look at that smile!

And it is so hard to even be upset with him... I mean look at that face! In all it's toothy glory.

Real Momma, Real Style

Try your hardest not to make fun of me. Let me just say in NO way do I think I am stylish. My closet contains mostly plain, neutral clothing and I HATE pictures of myself. I am trying to get out of my comfort zone a little so here is a start!!

At Momma Go Round, Nina does a Real Momma, Real Style linky party every week. She encourages us to try new things and step out of the box as far as fashion goes. I'm trying, but I don't have much to work with so here we go.

This is the outfit I wore to a baby shower this past week. Yes, I know it is summer and yes, I do realize I am wearing black. Like I said, mostly neutral clothing so just work with me here.

Dress and belt: Forever 21, Leggings and shoes: Target, Flower accessory: made it myself!

That flower is actually a headband that I wrapped around my braid about 10 times to make it into a ponytail.

Let me re-state that I really, Really, REALLY hate pictures of myself. I can take about 50 and find MAYBE 1 that I am OK with. This is my hubby snapping a pic of me before I went out the door. Hopefully, I can get more comfortable in front of the camera because let me tell you, this was NOT easy.

Again, like I said, not a fashionista, not a make-up artist, not a hairdresser. Just a mom who tries to rock what she got!

John's Incredible Pizza

Last year, we got a kickin' good deal to John's Incredible Pizza. It was called the "Annual Buffet Pass" and you bought it and were able to go twice a month for a year. The price per person ended up being $2.50 each (versus over $10 each regularly!) Not only that, because we were VIP members, every time we went, we were able to play games to win coupons, in which we won more free buffets, drinks, tokens and tickets. Let's just say we have more than gotten our money's worth. I'm so sad because this is our last month of it! They didn't re-introduce the program so I am guessing it was because of people like us who got lots of free stuff from it.

It was so nice having it because it gave us a place to go as a family twice a month and it was very budget-friendly. Guess we will have to find a new place to hang!

So here are just a couple of pictures from our trip there on Saturday.

Don't you just love their shirts?? I got them on GroopDealz from this sweet shop. (If you aren't already, you should sign up for GD! They have super cute stuff for great prices! Just click the link above!)
Peyton cashed out all of her tickets and scored a ton of stuff! We had over 3,000 tickets so she also got a Belle barbie doll on top of all of this. She was so happy! It was definitely worth it.

Where is your favorite spot to hang out as a family?

Fold your arms

I just love this! I can't even tell you how he learned it, but I said it one day and he just did it!! I also love that when I ask him to say bye, he turns and waves to the open door. Such a funny guy!

Beach Day

We had a fun day at the beach yesterday! It started off a bit on the cloudy side, but turned into a perfectly sunny and beautiful day! We met up with some friends from church and had fun just playing and chatting.

Eating lunch in our little shade tent

This little man loves his big sister!! He is always wanting to hug her and kiss her and just be with her!

For those of you who know Peyton very well, you know she does not like to get dirty so this is a HUGE accomplishment right here!

Damon had his very first oreo cookie.

Peyton mostly liked to run away from the waves, but she did jump and splash a bit too.
One of her favorite things was scaring away the birds. See that seagull? Yeah, she did that.
Sandy toes!
Daddy wasn't able to come with us, but we did get to meet him after work for some Chick-fil-a!
