Why I Run

Today was one of those days that I just wanted to throw in the towel. I didn't get enough sleep and didn't have time for breakfast, which led to unhealthy choices, which led to laziness, which led to a bad mood, which led to yelling too much at the kids, which led to me being overwhelmed. I had reached my limit.

I gave the kids a bath and put them in bed, changed clothes and told my hubby I needed to go run. I went outside and just went for it. It wasn't long (1.94 miles) or particularly fast (16 minutes) but it was exactly what I needed. It cleared my head and allowed my emotions to balance themselves out. I came home, showered and cut myself a big bowl of fruit and am now spending the rest of my night with my hubby. I am in a completely different mood and my day doesn't seem so bad anymore.

I started running because I wanted to get to a point where I could say, "Oh, I think I want to go run a few miles" and could just go out and do it. Now I can and it has saved my sanity. It makes me a better mom, a better wife, a better friend and a better human being. Any other benefits are only secondary.

This is why I run.

Meet Crush

This desert tortoise joined our family on Valentine's Day. Peyton promptly named him Crush (as in the sea turtle from Finding Nemo). He's super easy and quiet so I can't complain!

Running

I have recently started running. It's something I never thought I would do, but I am really learning to love it. I trained for a 5k, and now I am training for a 10k. Once that is complete, I will be training for a half marathon! Now that is just crazy to me. I am definitely not a fast runner, and I am sure my run is more like another person's jog, but I still do it. After about 3 weeks, I thought of the great idea to start keeping track of my mileage. Kind of like a journal in a way. Over the course of a little over a month, I have logged 118 miles! That is seriously crazy to me! And I have even doubled my mileage and my time running.

I have learned what a mental game that running is. Most of the time I find that I have to talk myself into finishing! My mind definitely gives up before my legs do. I still can't even imagine one day being able to run 13.1 miles, but I couldn't imagine running almost 6 miles a month ago either! Just goes to show what you can do when you try.

January

We had a pretty normal month. Here are the highlights:

Daddy daughter dance

Chris took Peyton to her school's annual daddy daughter dance. She was super excited to go, but they ended up coming home early because she wasn't feeling good. She ended up getting strep throat! Poor girl.

Date Nights

My 27th Birthday
Spent a nice day with my family and then got to have a girl's night out!

Normal Life
If there was one picture that could describe Bridget, this would be it. Messy hair, no pants, huge mess in the background and putting stickers on everything.
